The more colourful the food…the higher
the amount of phytonutrients it contains.
What
are phytonutrients? ((pronounced
fight-o-nutrients).
They
are antioxidants found exclusively in plant foods such as vegetables, fruits,
beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains; although vegetables contain greater
number of phytonutrient.
WHY IS IT
ESSENTIAL FOR WEIGHT LOSS? It is important because Phytonutrient-rich foods
make portion control easy.
Any
diet that contains a large amount of these fresh and unprocessed foods will
establish the right component for natural and sustained weight loss while also promoting
cardiovascular health.
Foods
rich in Phytonutrients are also high-fiber, low in
saturated fats, trans-fat
free and very high in antioxidants.
WHAT DO THE COLOURS REALLY MEAN?

However, the way we
prepare our foods tend to reduce the phytonutrients in them. For instance; raw vegetables usually have more nutrients
than cooked ones.
The importance of fruits and vegetables in our diet cannot be
overemphasized in view of the increased cases of obesity, type 2 diabetes,
heart disease, high cholesterol and hypertension due to the growing consumption
of fatty meats, processed sugars, and refined grains.
